The End of an Era

Fasts' to Retire

The end of the year is coming and some of our teachers are not coming back for the next school year. Mrs. Tammy Fast, middle/high school counselor, has decided to retire this year. Over the course of Fast’s years here she has been an elementary music teacher, middle/ high school music teacher, middle/ high school counselor, K12 counselor, and then back to middle/high school counselor. So overall she has worked at Moundridge for 38 years.

“I have had a great career at Moundridge. I would not trade it for anyplace else. I have had great colleagues and great students,” Tammy Fast said.

The other teacher who is not coming back is Tammy’s husband, Mr. Greg Fast. Greg has been the middle/high school woods teacher for 28 years. So far he has not made any plans for a part time job when he retires. But he will of course be doing a lot of traveling with his wife Tammy.

“There have been ups and downs, but mostly ups. Moundridge is a great place to live and work. Here in the school system, it’s like a big family,” Greg Fast said.

They both considered retiring last year but it didn’t make sense to them because Covid would have restricted them too much to do the things they wanted. “We are blessed to be in the position we are in right now. We are able to step away from the profession we’ve dedicated much of our lives to on our terms and can focus on some other things we’d like to do,” Greg Fast said.

Principal Hilarie Hecox has nothing but good things to say about the Fasts since she has been in Moundridge. “Over the years, our friendship has grown and I have grown in my appreciation for all that they do for Moundrige.” Hecox said.
