Cheryl Brandewiede

1st Grade Teacher

Welcome to first grade at Moundridge Elementary School.  This is my 21st year to teach first grade.  During this time I've enjoyed getting to know many of you.

I live in Hesston with my husband and youngest child, Ethan.  Ethan is an 8th grader at Moundridge Middle School.  I have two older children and two grandchildren!!

I graduated from Wichita State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education and spent some time substitute teaching.  I then hired on in this district as a paraprofessional at the elementary school.  I was a para for two years before being hired as a first grade teacher.  I have also graduated from Friends University with a Masters of Arts in Teaching.

My passion is teaching reading.  Our Power Reading program at the elementary school is awesome!  I have also  implemented "Daily 5" which is a framework for reading and language arts.  Daily 5 helps students become independent, lifelong readers and writers.

This year I am excited to delve into number sense with my first graders.  We will play math games, work on the computer and iPads, solve stories and do mental math.

Some of my favorite things to do in the classroom each year include; our "All About Me" unit,  studying space, the all school field trip to "P & M Pumpkin Ranch" and the animal unit which helps get us ready for our first grade trip to the zoo.

I love teaching and Moundridge is a great place to be!
