Melissa Helms

2nd Grade Teacher

This is my 18th year of how time flies! After teaching two years in Hutchinson schools, I came to Moundridge Elementary as a special education teacher and eventually was given the opportunity to have my own classroom of 2nd graders. One of the many reasons I love teaching is that each day is a new start and offers something different than the day before.

I grew up in Paola, Kansas and graduated from Paola High School in 1991. From there I went to Emporia State University to earn my teaching degree. I have also earned a Master's degree from Wichita State University.

My husband, Duane, and I have two children and we are pleased to be raising them in Moundridge. Kaela and Brady love going to Moundride Middle School and participating in school and community activities! In addition to cheering on the Moundridge Wildcats, I love KU basketball and am a lifelong KC Chiefs and Royals fan.
