Sarah Ullom-Minnich has qualified to nationals for the second time in her high school career. The tournament, which took place on April 19-20 was held at Bethel College in Newton. There, students from the West Kansas district (including Newton, Hutchinson, Salina, Halstead, Buhler, Lyons) competed in hopes of representing their districts, schools and state at the National tournament taking place in Birmingham Alabama June 16-21. Sarah competed in International Extemp, one of the most competitive and challenging events in this years tournament. As a senior Sarah has 4 years of experience under her belt, but what has helped propel her to success is her tireless determination and drive. In preparing for this tournament as well as any tournament she competes at she leaves no stone unturned. She placed third overall in the event.

Sarah was not alone in her success at the qualifying tournament. Sophia Leddy, competing in Original Oration and Rebecca Ullom-Minnich, competing in Domestic Extemp both placed 7th. They competed fiercely through preliminaries and made it to semi-finals, missing the final round competition by only one spot.

Sarah is an integral part of the Debate and Forensics team and this summer she will have the chance to put all her hard work to use while competing against students from all over the nation.
